A route
A week from Nuremberg to Munich
The useful thing about this season is that Franconia and Bavaria have already published their calendars. You can plan without guessing.
Nuremberg runs 27 November to 24 December 2026, on the Hauptmarkt. Rothenburg opens earlier, on 20 November, and closes on 23 December, shut on 22 November. Munich’s market on Marienplatz also opens on 20 November, also shuts that Sunday, and runs through Christmas Eve.
A quiet reading: arrive in Rothenburg on a weekday in the last week of November. Move to Nuremberg for the opening if you want the prologue — the market’s own site puts it at 17:30 on 27 November — or later in the first week of December. Munich can be the last stop. It finishes at 14:00 on Christmas Eve.
Würzburg (27 November to 23 December) and Bamberg (24 November to 23 December) sit on the same railway geography if the week grows. None of this is a timetable. The planner on this site only gives a rough leg.
