Several squares in the old town. Heidelberg Marketing publishes 23 November to 22 December 2026 for the Christmas market, with a longer run for the Winterwäldchen and the ice rink.

The same page extends Heidelberger Winterwäldchen to 1 January 2027 and the ice rink to 6 January 2027. Those are not the same thing as the main market.

The season

The marketing page lists Sunday–Monday 11:00–21:00 and Saturday 11:00–22:00. Tuesday to Friday are not clearly separated in that text, so do not assume them. The official opening is given as 23 November at 18:00 on the Marktplatz.

What to notice

• Heidelberg Marketing names Bismarckplatz, the Anatomiegarten, Universitätsplatz and Kornmarkt among the sites, and puts the opening on the Marktplatz.
• If you are here after 22 December, ask which part is still open. The main market’s published end is 22 December.

What to eat and drink

Unless a sentence names its source, these are specialities associated with the city, not a confirmed menu for 2026. Stall lists change every season.

• Nothing on the hours page fixes a dish. Heidelberg’s old town is otherwise a place for simple tavern food once you leave the stalls.

Planning notes

• The castle is above the market. The market is the town, not the castle terrace.

Getting there

Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof, then a 10-minute bus or a longer walk to Bismarckplatz, and on into the old town.

When to go

The days around the opening, in daylight, so you can walk the squares and still see the castle.
