• The old town is small, walled and exactly the right size for an evening, market or not.
• A ferry from Helsinki is the usual pairing. Do not assume both cities have published markets just because the boat runs.

Planning notes

• Check Visit Tallinn the month you travel. The square is worth the walk either way.
• In deep December the square is dark by mid-afternoon. That is the atmosphere, and also the reason to watch your footing.

Getting there

Tallinn’s old town is a short walk or taxi from the ferry terminal and from the main railway station area. Confirm which port your boat uses.
