A route

Christmas markets by train: three rail routes through Central Europe

Many of the best-known Christmas markets sit on main railway lines, a few hours apart. A train trip lets you see several in one week without driving or flying between them.

Below are three routes that link market cities in this guide. The journey times are rough planning figures for a typical daytime train, the same ones the trip planner uses. They are not a timetable: check the rail operator’s journey planner and book before you go.

Each stop shows the market’s published 2026/27 dates. Use them to choose the order: start where the market opens first, and finish where it runs latest.
